Flame of Slane Festival

29th to 31st March 2013

The Flame in Slane festival is a relatively new festival in County Meath celebrating the lighting of St. Patrick’s Paschal Fire during Easter week every year in Slane.  As well as the lighting of the fire, this one and a half hour show includes Irish mythology, a battle re-enactment, a light show, music and poetry, and an exhilarating firework display.  This family-friendly event also showcases some of the local talent in Slane with exhibitions and workshops by local youth groups and storytellers.  The poetry of Francis Ledwidge is also recited to the gathered crowd just before the flame is lit. The aim of the festival is to celebrate Slane as the home of St Patrick and the Lighting of the Pascal Flame in 432 AD which is the central theme of the show.  Visitors are invited to join in this celebration by lighting their own lanterns which are available for sale at this event every year.  This celebration of local mythology, folklore, poetry and music is truly unique to Slane, and is set to continue to thrive in the future.
